Sexual Disorders
There are two main types of psychological sexual disorders, these being Hypoactive Sexual Desire (HSD) and Sexual Aversion.
Hypoactive Sexual Desire - Is a sexual disorder that is characterized by low or absent sexual desire. This disorder is fairly common in both men and women and seems to have many causes.
Depression seems to be the leading cause while anger towards the partner follows closely.
However, there are also other factors that cause HSD including, stress, divorce, loss of work, berievement etc. Normally the best treatment for this
disorder is in the form of psychosexual therapy to gain insight into the underlying motives that are inhibiting sexual desire.
Sexual Aversion - Is a sexual disorder that is characterized by a consistent phobic response to sexual activities or the idea of such activities.
A person experiencing sexual aversions, feels overwhelming anxiety about any kind of sexual contact. A mere kiss could be enough to
cause a phobic response. Sometimes these responses are internalized, but at other times, they can lead to physical responses such as
sweating, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. Sexual aversion could be the result of sexual trauma, sexual pressure from a partner, gender confusion and severely negative parental attitudes during childhood.
The most effective treatment for this disorder is also in the form of psychosexual therapy and includes dealing with the individuals
sexual history at the clients pace.
