Making Up

Applying Make Up

After going through the cleaning routine as described in the Face Care page, its time to get artistic with the makeup.

Start by applying concealor in the under eye area to disguise bags and dark circles and on any spot or blemish you might have. Put some concealor on your index finger and pat over the offending area, do not drag over the skin, just pat into place for better results.

Next squirt some foundation on your hand (not the palm, since this is more likely to contain oils), and use a damp sponge to apply some of the foundation on your hand onto your face. Wait a few seconds to let the foundation dry then apply some loose powder with a large brush to set the foundation and get a matt look. Watch out for damarcation foundation lines along the jaw area. Blend the foundation on your jaw onto your neck for an even look.

Now it is time to concentrate on your eyes. Apply eyebrow colour, then eye shadow. The trick with eye shadow is to use three different shades of the same colour. The lightest shade is applied first, all over the eyelid and up to the brow. Next comes the darker shade which goes all over the eyelid, whilst the darkest shade goes on the outer part of the eyelid. This will create an illusion of dimension. Finish off the eyes, by lining them with a liquid eye liner for a stong look or a pencil liner for a softer look. Make sure you do NOT make the top and bottom lines meet at the corners both inside and outside the eyelid. By doing this you will make you eyes appear larger. Finally don't forget the mascara. A more detailed description on how to apply natural eye make-up can be found in the Eye Make-Up page.

The final steps are the blusher and lips. Make sure that the blusher and lipstick shades complement each other. That is, if for example you are using a pink lipstick go for a pinkish blusher, and similarly if using brown. Apply the blusher on your cheek bone for a fuller look. Line your lips with a lip liner, then fill in the rest with lipstick. To make your lipstick last longer, apply it with a lip brush.

Now....smile and get going!
