Female Infertility
Current estimates show that 60 percent of non conceiving couples are due to female disorders.
The most common causes for female infertility are:
Anovulation - Hyposecretion of gonadotropic hormones from the anterior pituitary gland followed by a failure to ovulate. This type of anovulatory cycle can sometimes be detected by testing the female's urine for the presence of pregnanediol (a product of progesterone metabolism). Since the concentration of progesterone normally rises following ovulation, no increase in pregnanediol in the urine during the latter part of the menstrual cycle suggests a lack of ovulation.
The treatment of such a disorder is usually by means of the hormone HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) which is obtained from human placentas and can stimulate ovulation. Another type of ovulatory substance is HMG (human menopausal gonadotropin) which can be obtained from the urine of postmenopausal women.
Endometriosis - This is when the tissue resembling the inner lining of the uterus is present abnormally in the abdominal cavity. Some investigators believe that small pieces of the endometrium may move up through the urine tubes during menses and become implanted in the abdominal cavity. The tissue then undergoes changes and doesn't get expelled to the outside. Instead, it remains in the abdominal cavity were it may irritate the lining and cause abdominal pain. This tissue also tends to stimulate the formation of fibrous tissue (fibrosis) which in turn may encase the ovary, preventing ovulation from occurring.

Untreated infections and Sexually Transmitted Diseases - Left untreated certain infections and Sexually Transmitted Diseases could cause infertility in women. This would happen because the infections could cause the uretine tubes to become inflamed and obstructed or may stimulate the production of mucous that prevents the entrance of sperms. One classic example of this is Gonorrhea. Always prevent getting STD/STI by practising Safe Intercourse.
